Ghana's SEC admits Africoin to its VASP sandbox
Africoin, a Rwanda-headquartered platform tokenising real-world assets (cocoa, coffee, gold, silver and verified carbon credits on Ethereum), was admitted to Ghana's SEC Virtual Asset Sandbox on 8 April 2026, among the first participants under the VASP Act 2025 (Act 1154). The sandbox term is 12 months with a mid-term review at six, and successful completion can lead to full licensing. Two things are worth holding onto. Ghana's regulatory pathway for digital assets is now operational, not theoretical, barely three months after presidential assent, which is faster than either Kenya or Nigeria moved from statute to first authorisation. And the participant itself marks a pattern: a Kigali-based platform seeking approval in Accra while pursuing, by its own account, parallel approvals in other African markets. Pan-African tokenisation plays are structuring for multi-country compliance from the start.
