Data Protection Digest is a publication of Law Lab Africa, a tech-law consultancy and research house working across data protection, AI governance and digital assets. It is edited by Wanjiku Karanja and sent every two weeks, free.
Each issue carries seven sections: a lead story worth your full attention; a regulatory update across African jurisdictions; a practical toolkit for the people who implement compliance, e.g. data protection officers; an enforcement roundup of fines, notices and determinations from across Africa; one international development, e.g. from the EU, UK or US, and its impact on African regulators and practitioners; upcoming deadlines you can act on; and opportunities such as fellowships, conferences and calls for papers.
Between issues, the archive holds everything the Digest has published: analysis, data protection news, enforcement orders and regulatory developments.
Every claim links to a source: judgments to the judgment, determinations to the regulator's document, reported developments to the report. If we cannot source a fact, we do not publish it. If we get something wrong, write to info@lawlab.africa and we will correct the entry and say so on it.
The Digest draws on Law Lab Africa's structured datasets of African data protection enforcement, the same research behind its enforcement tracker and published analyses.
