FSCA reports 30 supervisory inspections of crypto asset service providers in a year

15 April 2026  ·  More from April 2026

The FSCA published a supervisory update on crypto asset service provider licensing on 15 April 2026, reporting 30 supervisory inspections of CASPs conducted between April 2025 and March 2026 under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act. No new licensing regime came with it; the FAIS Act framework remains the baseline. The number is the news. Thirty inspections in twelve months means the FSCA is physically supervising its licensed crypto sector, not just licensing it, at a tempo of roughly one inspection every ten days. South Africa remains the only African jurisdiction where crypto firms hold conduct licences and receive routine supervisory visits, and the inspection findings will shape where FSCA enforcement lands next. Licensed CASPs should assume their turn is scheduled, and unlicensed operators should note what the QuickTrade penalty says about the Authority's appetite.
