SEC Nigeria warns the public off Aurum Bot, an unlicensed crypto investment platform

30 January 2026  ·  More from January 2026

On 30 January 2026 SEC Nigeria issued a public warning against Aurum Bot, an online platform soliciting cryptocurrency investments from Nigerian retail investors without registration or licence. The Commission declared the platform unauthorised to operate in any capacity in Nigeria. The warning itself carries no penalty. Its weight is in the pattern: SEC Nigeria's circulars feed has been issuing illegal-operator alerts at an accelerating rate since the Investments and Securities Act 2025 took effect, and public naming is the first rung of an enforcement ladder that now includes licence revocation (see the Kensington Agro revocation, signed 9 February 2026). For platforms in this market the message is unambiguous. Registration under ISA 2025 is the cost of soliciting Nigerian investors, and the Commission is actively scanning for those who skip it.
