Nigeria hosts regulators from nine African countries for a cross-border enforcement exchange

The NDPC hosted a two-day peer exchange in Abuja on 4 and 5 May 2026, bringing data protection regulators from nine African countries and multilateral institutions together to discuss cross-border enforcement coordination. Continental coordination has been a communiqué topic for years; what distinguishes this meeting is who convened it and when. Nigeria hosted from a position of active enforcement (Temu, the CAC probe, the April advisory all live that quarter), which turns the exchange from a talking shop into a working session among regulators comparing live case strategies. For organisations operating across several African jurisdictions, the direction of travel is toward synchronised scrutiny: an enforcement theory tested by one DPA increasingly arrives at its neighbours pre-packaged. Cross-border data practices that assume regulators do not talk to each other are now built on a false premise.
